A community of people in the Heights, following Jesus by loving God, pursuing wholeness, caring for one another, and serving our neighbors.

Pursuing Wholeness

This Thursday, May 6th, we will be meeting men and women separate … as we continue abiding together in Christ.

Share a Meal with another … be The Church!

Taking hold of what we discussed last Thursday during our Community Dinner, let’s use this week to invite our neighbors to our homes, love others and to get to know others in our community better. Don’t be shy, invite others into your lives! We will get together the following Thursday (April 29th) to see how this week went, and to share plans of how our Heights group can become more like a community to one another!

Thursday, March 25: Dinner with NYC SALT teens

This Thursday night, March 25th, we have the amazing opportunity of sharing an evening with some great teenagers from the Heights! As you know, we’ve been getting to know the teens participating in NYC Salt (www.nycsalt.org) for the last couple months, and they want to join us this Thursday night for dinner and fun!

We’re expecting maybe 10+ teenagers to show up, so we need some good grub (and lots of it). Some good potluck dishes might be: chicken, chips & salsa, vegetables, pasta, casserole, salads, dessert, etc.

When: Thursday, March 25th, 6:30 pm – 8 ish
Where: Tyson’s home
255 Fort Washington Ave. #66
New York, NY 10032
(between 171st and 170th)
Who: you, good food and some awesome teens

Here are some other things happening in our community:

  • Check out pictures from our Passover Seder last Thursday night on Kristen Whalen’s blog: http://woodandwine.blogspot.com/2010/03/lamb.html
  • Next Thursday (April 1st) is Maundy Thursday. We’ll be celebrating this together with the TGC community at St. Paul’s Church (22nd street between 8th & 9th). Our traditional liturgical Maundy Thursday service contains scripture, song, and optional foot-washing. Jesus said to his disciples on that night, after washing their feet as a servant would, “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.” (John 13). **No childcare provided.

Friday, April 2: Good Friday Service

Good Friday is the day we remember the final day of Jesus’ life, and his death on the cross. It is the most solemn day in the church year. Easter Sunday is all the brighter when we have stayed with Christ in the darkness of Friday.

Our liturgical Good Friday service uses scripture, song, meditation and silence to help us remember.

Friday April 2, 7pm – St Paul’s German Church, 22nd between 8th and 9th

Childcare provided, please RSVP to Christy.

Thursday, April 1: Maundy Thursday Service

Holy Week — that is, the week before Easter — is a very special time in the church year. We use this time to walk with Jesus through the last week before his death.

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday of Holy Week. Traditionally this evening centers on Jesus’ Passover meal with his disciples in the upper room, and specifically on the command (or mandate) he gives them here: Love each other as I have loved you. The word Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, which means mandate.

Our traditional liturgical Maundy Thursday service contains scripture, song, and optional foot-washing. Jesus said to his disciples on that night, after washing their feet as a servant would, “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.” (John 13)

Thursday April 1, 7pm – at St Paul’s German Church, 22nd between 8th and 9th

No childcare provided.

March 29-April 2: Holy Week Lunchtime Meditations

Join us during Holy Week (the week before Easter, March 29-April 2) for daily lunchtime meditations at the church office, 12-1pm. We will use this time to walk with Jesus through the days before his death, using the scripture to guide us.

Trinity Grace Church office, 330 5th Ave, 8th floor (corner of 33rd), 12:15pm-1pm

  • Monday, Mar 29 – Mark 11:12-25
  • Tuesday, Mar 30 – Mark 11:27-33
  • Wednesday, Mar 31 – Mark 12:1-11
  • Maundy Thursday, Apr 1 – Mark 14:12-25

Thursday, March 18: Passover Meal

Thursday, February 25: SALT, Salsa, and Snacks

As we continue our monthly rhythm of *Loving God, Pursuing Wholeness,
Building Community, and Serving Our Neighbors*, we wanted to invite you all
to a great opportunity *this Thursday night* to serve our neighbors. As many
of you know, we are building a relationship with teens that participate in
one of our church member’s (Alicia Hansen) non-profit program which serves
inner-city teenagers through photography and the creative arts (
http://www.nycsalt.org/).

Most of the teenagers hail from the Heights, and this Thursday we will be
joining them in a night of Salsa Dancing. Regardless of your dancing skills,
this is a great opportunity to learn from the kids, have fun and celebrate a
couple of the kids’ birthdays as well. One aspect we want to build into our
community is the idea of celebration. What better way to do that than to
dance! We will be meeting at the NYCSalt studio in midtown.

*Where*: 315 West 36th Street, Suite 1001
New York, NY 10018
*When*: Thursday, Feb. 25th, 6-8 pm
*What*: Salsa dancing, celebration, snacks
*Needs*: Dancing shoes, drinks (soda/juice), snacks (cookies, chips, etc.),
you!
Please email either Gary (gary[at]trinitygracechurch.com) or me (
wonki78[at]gmail.com) with an RSVP and confirmation that you will bring
refreshments. Birthdays are a BIG deal, so let’s bring some good dessert and
celebrate!
